Summary

Today we are going to be talking about the intersection of attachment and racial identity, exploring some of the ways that current models of romantic attachment reflect Eurocentric standards, as well as ways that we can adapt couples’ work to be responsive to BIPOC couples.

Dimica Lawrence

MSW, LCSW is currently in private practice in North Carolina. She received her Master of Social Work-Advanced Standing Program from North Carolina State University in 2018 and has worked in community-based and private practice settings with Adolescents with Severe Emotional Disturbances, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual and Developmental Disorders, Juveniles, couples and families.

Candice Creasman Mowrey

PhD, LCMHCS - Dr. Candice Creasman Mowrey received a Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008, and a Doctorate in Counseling and Counselor Education from North Carolina State University in 2015. She has worked in in-patient, psychosocial rehabilitation, community agency, disability services, and intensive outpatient settings. She founded Creasman Counseling, PLLC, a single-person private practice, in 2011, which has grown to a team of over a dozen culturally and professionally diverse clinicians. Dr. Creasman Mowrey has taught Masters level counseling students in online and in-person settings, and currently directs a Clinical Mental Health Counseling internship program.
